what seems small is big

I don’t know whats with the title, I couldn’t really think of one. This weekends been good, from serious talks friday night to Strong, Single and Sexy female valentines party saturday to sunday. Thanks for planning it. It’s a little too late to elaborate on it, but go on my facebook and check out the pictures. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Sermon was good today as well, Pastor Brett talked about forgivness, carrying someone else’s burden even though we want them to suffer. Even more, forgiving ourselves is the first step. We all have secrets, maybe it’s time for us to forgive ourselves for that one thing that we cannot get over.

That wasn’t what i wanted to write about though. My mom’s friend from Jakarta is in town for the week, and she stayed with us for the weekend. I’m sure you’ve heard about the big flood that occured at Jakarta. Many many people are now homeless and have nothing in their life, no food, no money, no shelter.

Currently, because of the horrible conditions, this friend of my mom’s family is feeding and housing 25-30 people each night. She feeds them three meals a day, and gives them a shelter at night – her house.

I found it very amazing when I heard about it. God is doing work within each one of them, and most importantly, this family has such a great heart to be helping the poor, helping those in need. It makes my heart melt knowing that this small amount of people is being taken care of.

It might seem small to us, but to those in need, it is their life saver right now. To be able to stay alive and have a shelter. How can we help others in the smallest way?

A few more days till Chinese New Year, hang in there. I am ready.

the many people we come across

Today was a beautiful day, sitting outside in the island under the shade with a little wind reading and just enjoying my free was great. I watched the musical theater show afterschool, good job to all those who performed. Some of the lyrics for one of the songs hit me and got me thinking.

That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn

And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return

– For Good by the musical Wicked

The second I heard those first two phrases, i immediatly started thinking about it. I totally agree, but there are so many people we come across, what have we learned from them? How have we been changed through them? Everyday, we meet people, we affect people. They might be people we just walk past through the streets. (The Five people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom gives an good example of this) How have the random people in your life affected you? Or the main friends or family that you have? Certainly something to think about.

Towards the end of encounter tonight, we had a chance to find a partner and talk about any prayer requests. A friend and I had a great time talking about life in general, she helped me realize some of my struggles whether I like to admit it or not. Some struggles I can’t hold back, some I have a hard time admitting, but no matter what – it’ll only make us stronger.

Last but not least, any prayer requests? If you don’t feel comfortable telling me in a comment here, feel free to send me an email.

I just realized.

My title’s for these entries are getting pretty lame. But that’s okay, because I know ya’ll read the entry itself right?

So I was flipping through my perpetual calendar. I was flipping through the January  section and wondering what day in January it was. Then it hit me, January has passed – it’s Febrary!

Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday that we got back to school from christmas. Seniors only have less than four months left in their high school years, and for us juniors, well four more months until our last year of high school!  Chinese New Year. Interim. Easter. Philippines mission trip. By the time we know it, it’ll be summer all over again. It’s a nice thought.

Life’s been different, but I’m enjoying it.

Smiling is the Universal Language.

Well…

I was supposed to say something classy and inspirational but it’s just not my style.  But I do have something to say.

Wow, what a week, and it’s not even over yet.  It has been really intense but I am starting to get a real perspective again.  I will be off to the Philipines very soon to get Sun Burned and to do some quality worship.  Maybe I will actually get off my lazy butt and do something when I am there but I highly doubt my own lack of caring for doing anything other than sleeping will allow me to move an inch.

In the last couple of days, i’ve had to write about racisim and slavery and frankly it disturbs me that these things still happen.  But as Hynah does say, the structure of society does depend on the the different class sturctures that we have.  The upper class depends on the lower class and vice versa.  It’s sad but true.  However we must I guess learn to work with the differences.

Chinese New Year is coming up and I am getting readay to join a bit of the festivities, and hopefully get a little money.  And hey as they say in England:

“If it’s not your cup of tea.  Have some Coffee.”

Cheers,
Jo,
