Working out

Church was great this morning, it was a sermon that we can all relate to and needed to hear. It was part of the “Growing” series the last couple of weeks, and this week we heard about being in “God’s gym“.

It was focused on scriptures from Hebrews chaper 5. Talks about having an expectation of growth. But being slow to learn, there is a gap between where we should be and where we are at spiritually. At this time, we are to ask ourselves three questions.

How Eager am I?

Eager to learn about God, eager to seek the truth and his word.

How Teachable am I?

Are we responsive to God? We are to have an humble and teachable posture. Through our humility, we are able to be molded and changed by God. Will we always have a change me, mold me and conform me attitude?

Meaning.. when people give us advice, or tells us something that we can change to be a better person and more Christ-like, do we just take their advice, and throw it out the window or do we think about it and change our ways? Do we take those opportunities to heart?

How focused am I?

“… let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseveranc the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning it’s shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

We have to constantly realign ourselves and fix ourselves back on Jesus CHrist, because once we don’t do that, we will DRIFT! We have to remember what is important and what is priority.

Thinking about those three questions relates me to Basketball personally. Because basketball is one of my main hobbies, I enjoy playing it, I enjoy watching it, I enjoy everything about it. We can all relate these questions to the thing we enjoy most.

When we do, we realize that we are eager to pursue that dream, that thing we want to do. I am eager to play basketball. I am willing to be teachable to the skills of basketball, because I want to get better. And we want to be focused , practice all the time or else we will fall behind, we will drift away from our skills.

There is always more for us to learn, to seek, and to change ourselves, because we can never be perfect, we can only strive to be Christ-like, so start today!
