One of the things that I was interested in after I came back from my brother’s graduation in May was reading commencement addresses. I came across the Standford University commencment address in year 2005 by Steve Jobs- the CEO of of Apple computer. I read it and never thought much about it until I recieved it in an email again today. It’s very refreshing to read the address. One of the things that struck me was this.
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs
Many people don’t realize that they are living someone else’s life. They believe another person seems happy, seems to be having a good life.. and so they take away what they do and tries to apply it to themselves, hoping they would also be happy. Alot of times, it does not work that way. Do what you think will make you happy, as Steve Jobs says. Follow your heart and intuition. No matter how much other people, and the world itself tell you to do something because it’s the right thing to do and it’s the way to be succesful. If that thing does not satisfy you, nothing matters. Even if you have everything you want, materialistic things, You’ll always have that empty hole inside you. You’ve got to find what you love. and…
“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith.”
There’s always going to be times where we break down, where we feel like nothing is going the way we want or the way we planned. But Don’t lose faith. God knows what we want, and He knows what’s best for us. So keep believing. Keep looking for what you love. and Don’t settle until you find it.
Cheers.
